Instructions: Here is what you need to get started...

box1. Sign Up
All artists must register so we can plan accordingly and give you the inside scoop. To get signed up as a Tiny Tropolis artist click the "Sign Up" button above.

box2. Get Your Box
To make it easy we're using a 12”X 12”X 8” cardboard box, which Starbucks gets their coffee delivered in.  The SKU# is 140720.  Ask your local Barista what days coffee gets delivered, where the boxes end up, and check the SKU to find the right box.  However, any cardboard box of those dimensions is acceptable. Your local Office Depot or Office Max will have 12" x 12" x 12" boxes which can easily be modified to the correct dimensions.

lights3. Lighting Considerations

Tiny Tropolis really wants to be amazing by day and by night. Please put some thought and creativity into how to do both. By day, you'll want a hole or series of holes that will let light in enough to accentuate your creation. By night, you'll need a battery or solar powered solution. We strongly recommend testing these out early on. Contact us for ideas.

lights4. Exterior of Each Box Needs to be the Same
The vision for our installation is that when people discover it out on the Playa, they'll see one long row of identical looking little white boxes. This means that your box will need to be painted white. Please use house paint that will help protect your box from the elements. Also, we would like only one hole on the front of your box. The box should be oriented so that the 8" dimension is the height.

lights5. Make Sure It's Durable (inside and out)
Not only will your box need to be tranported safely all the way to BRC but you also will need it to withstand a week in desert conditions. High heat by day means that Elmer's glue probably ain't gonna cut it. Get industrial adhesives, and make sure it can handle the strong winds that will shake the box even on its stand. Also, protecting your interior from dust will be complicated. You'll want people to see in but you probably will want to keep the dust out. Again, we're asking you to be creative here but we have some ideas... contact us.

lights6. Let Only Your Imagination Hold You Back!
Anything goes inside your diorama. Simple, complex, jaw-dropping, thought inspiring... you decide... It's your art. We're just happy you'll be joining Team Tiny and that you're contributing to this fun installation. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

lights7. Write Your Info on the Bottom of Your Box
Write your contact info legibly with black sharpie on the bottom of your box.  Name, phone number and email address.

lights8. Deadlines
We'll be trucking the dioramas to Black Rock City and will need them delivered to us at least a week before the event. You can also bring them to Burning Man yourself but you'll need to have them up there by Sunday Night (August 29th). When you sign up, we'll send you more specific details.

lights9. Leave No Trace
We'll bring the dioramas to B.R.C but we are asking for you to manage the removal of your diorama (if it contains non-burnable materials... plastic, fabric, etc) at the conclusion of the event. It doesn't necessarily mean you have to bring it back but someone does and it's your responsibility to find that person. Thank you!

Once you sign up, we'll give you more specific details. We're really excited that you'll be joining the team and look forward to being in touch with you. If you have any questions, please click on the "contact" link at the top of the page.
